Help page

Don't know what to do? Don't worry, we'll help you out. Below you'll find a small FAQ to cover the most important bases. If you're still in the dark, you can head on over to the contact page and send us a message.

What is CoverSmash?

At its core, CoverSmash is website designed to help readers find new books by looking at a book's number one selling point: its cover. It is also meant as a competition. As a user, you are presented with two covers at a time and your job is to compare them and click on the one you like the best.

Someone mentioned a contest?

Aye, there's a contest. Register a profile and vote on at least 5 duels to enter. At the end of the month, we'll draw a random winner of a 20$ amazon gift card. There are also author contests, which will be announced in full detail later. The gist of it is that we'll crown a "Book Cover of the Month" in each category.

What happens when I click on a cover?

Each book cover has a rank in our system. The covers are presented two at a time in a duel. By clicking a cover, you name it the winner of the current duel. The rank of the cover you chose will rise, while the rank of the losing cover will fall. How much the ranks rise and fall depends on the rank the book covers had coming into the duel. If a lower ranked cover wins, it rises more than the higher ranked cover would have if it had won.

Why not just give each book cover a rating between 1 and X and be done with it?

We could have. However, grading something is difficult, or, at least, it is more difficult than doing a comparison. Also, it allows us an easy way to present books to readers two at a time.

I've forgotten my password, what do I do?

Whoops, can't get them all, eh? The forgotten password link is currently malfunctioning and has been temporarily removed. Send us a message on our contact page and we'll help you out manually. Sorry about that.
